    13th Istanbul Biennial: Art in the centre of social agitation

    On September 14 the 13th edition of the Istanbul Biennial was opened, titled: ‘Anne, ben barbar mıyım?’* (Mom, am I barbarian?). The focal point of this Biennial will be the notion of the public domain as a political forum.

    Mobile studio at Beijing Design Week 2013

    The Amsterdam based design agency Lava moves around with a mobile design studio during the Beijing Design Week 2013. In the narrow alleys of one of the oldest hutong neighbourhoods, local businesses are offered a new logo design free of charge, showing them the added value of Dutch Design.

    Conceptual Framework and design of 13th Istanbul Biennial announced

    On January 8th, the concept and the designs of the 13th Istanbul Biennial were presented. Titled: 'Mom, am I barbarian?', this biennial will address the major urban transformations happening in Istanbul today. Curated by Fulya Erdemci, this biennial asks important questions about what is considered civilised or barbaric in the public domain. Lava reflected on the politically and socially engaged concept with a strongly articulated visual language, creating a clear visual identity of the biennial

    Lava’s designs for Elevate presented at World Design Forum 2012

    Elevate will be presented at the World Design Forum (WDF 2012) on friday October 19th. The forum explores the changing landscape of social entrepreneurship and investigates how design and design thinking can enable promising initiatives to improve quality of life and impact communities. The case of Elevate fits these qualifications seamlessly. For Lava it has been a challenge on several areas of our expertise: identity design, communication, brand strategy and user experience design.

    Lava creates visual identity and digital publication Spoorbeeld

    Spoorbeeld, developed by Bureau Spoorbouwmeester, sets the guidelines for the design of all the trainstation surroundings in the Netherlands. Lava designed an identity that reflects the essence of Spoorbeeld, namely: what is the meaning of a detail (a bench on a platform), in relation to the whole (the looks of the station area). The digital publication discloses all information, leglislation and inspiration regarding the experience of the Dutch railways in a clear and visually attractive way.

    Lava creates identity for Moscow Design Museum

    The launch of the first design museum of Moscow is a fact. The Moscow Design Museum has no fixed address, it drives! On the 13th of February, 2012, the website was launched by Lava's founder and creative director Hans Wolbers in the London Design Museum and the kick-off in Moscow was soon after on the 17th of February. As their partner, Lava is closely involved in the concept development of this unique museum and has created the visual identity, which is based on traditional Russian glassware.

    HUMANITY HOUSE wins Silver at European Design Awards

    Lava's brand for Humanity House wins Silver in the category 'brand implementation' at the European Design Awards 2011 in Vilnius, Lithuania. Humanity House was a unique collaboration between designstudio Lava and multidisciplinairy artist Henk Schut.
